SMc Curriculum is a company made up of math teachers striving to make other teachers’ lives easier. We provide consulting services for math teachers of all grades in school districts around the nation as well as math curriculum for written for Grades 3-5 (Digging into Math) and Grades 6-8 (Core Focus on Math).

Shannon McCaw

Shannon has been a classroom teacher in the Newberg and Parkrose School Districts in Oregon. She has been trained in professional learning communities, differentiated instruction and Critical Friends. Shannon currently works as a consultant with math teachers from over 100 districts around Oregon. Shannon’s areas of expertise include the Common Core State Standards, curriculum alignment, assessment best practices, interventions and instructional strategies. She has a degree in Mathematics from George Fox University and a Masters of Arts in Secondary Math Education from Colorado College.

Jen Hunt

Jen Hunt has been an elementary teacher for over a decade, most recently in Lake Oswego. Her training in psychology enables her to approach the Common Core Standards and Math Practices through the lens of child development and brain research. She has created district-wide math assessments and helped design district-wide conference-style workshops. Other areas of expertise include curriculum mapping, maximizing management for efficiency, and reflective practice. Jen earned a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Teaching from Whitworth University.

Laura Nelson

Laura was an elementary classroom teacher for 14 years, most recently with the Lake Oswego School District in Oregon. She has taught 2nd – 5th grades in self-contained and departmentalized settings, straight grades, and blends. Laura’s areas of expertise include differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, professional learning communities, and multiple intelligences theory. She enjoys the challenge of combining art, music, movement, and literacy skills to create math lessons and activities that engage all learners. Laura earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Oregon and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Portland State University.

Sarah Parnell

Sarah has been a classroom teacher at the middle and high school levels in both public and private schools. Most recently she was a classroom teacher at Forest Grove High School. She has been trained in Constructing Meaning and has been a professional learning community lead teacher. Her areas of expertise include: collaborating with team members; engaging students; and instructional strategies. Sarah has a degree in Secondary Education from Pacific Lutheran University and a Master’s of Arts in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University.

Sarah Schuhl

Sarah has been a classroom teacher, secondary math instructional coach and district-wide K-12 math instructional specialist, most recently in the Centennial School District in Oregon. Sarah currently works as a Solution Tree associate and an educational consultant supporting and challenging teachers in the areas of math instruction and alignment to the Common Core State Standards, common assessments for all subjects and grade levels and professional learning communities. From 2010–2013, Sarah served as a member and chair of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics editorial panel for their Mathematics Teacher journal. Sarah earned a Masters of Science in Teaching Mathematics from Portland State University.
