Grade 8 Performance Tasks

Students will analyze mathematical situations, write equations to represent situations, and use inverse operations to solve for given parts of an equation. Students must also show how different parts of a given graph represent different parts of an equation.

Students will simplify mathematical expressions and use algebra to solve problems regarding apple pricing at an orchard. Students will also have to analyze two pricing options to determine the better deal and justify their reasoning. Additionally, students will work with inequalities to create a pricing option that follows certain parameters.

Students will find the perimeter of shapes and use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the perimeter of a triangular shape. Students will also find the circumference of a circle. Finally, students will analyze the reasoning of a student and explain his mistake.

Students will analyze test scores using a scatter diagram, will use a line of best fit to answer questions about the diagram, and will make and critique inferences based on the data. Students will also evaluate the validity of conclusions drawn from the data.

Students will interpret and draw graphs. Students will represent a mathematical situation, understand a function, and model using a graph. Finally, students will design a graph to model a real-life situation.
