Description: Students are partners and are assigned the role of Mathlete or Coach for a relay.  Partner sets are given one problem to solve.  The Mathlete is responsible for doing all the writing (the Coach cannot touch the “equipment”).   The Coach is allowed to use words to help the Mathlete solve the problem.  When the solution pathway and answer are documented on the relay card, the Mathlete brings up the card to the Referee (teacher).  If it is correct, they receive the next card.  Roles in the partner group may or may not be switched depending on how the partners were assigned.  In some cases, two different levels of relay cards could be used in the activity to differentiate.
